It's been a few years since I went to a convention, but I remember the ridiculous clothing quite clearly. Pre-teen/early teen girls in prom dresses, teen girls in hooker shoes and tight dresses, young married women still trying to look sexy while carting around a baby or toddler, middle age ladies dressed like they were attending a society wedding, old ladies wearing cocktail gowns. The physical misery of the venue made sturdy, washable, no-iron, comfortable clothes much more practical, but there were few women exercising such common sense.

Expressions on faces at DC/RC
by BU2B ini have become more observant at the last couple district conventions of jws faces and enthusiasm and it seems to be very somber.
i remember a couple of years ago i was an attendant at one of the upper sections at the blue cross arena in rochester, ny and in afternoon session at least half were curled up with their eyes closed, some with blankets.
the applause seems very forced and mechanical.

Dissed by a Sister!
by finally awake ini was running the cash till at the annual boy scout fundraiser yard sale yesterday, wearing my finest boy scout t-shirt and enjoying the blistering heat, when i saw a local family of witnesses browsing the merchandise.
they studiously avoided looking at me, but eventually a bargain nightgown proved irresistable and the wife was forced to approach the cash table and ask about pricing.
we avoid putting prices on each item because there is just too much stuff and we remind everyone that the money sends the kids to summer camp so the guilt kicks in and people pay more.

LOL Pete
The witnesses in my town were never anti-yard sale or anti-thrift store in general. I know the former PO would openly admit to contributing to the local school fundraisers when kids would knock on his door. I was sitting in full view of everyone driving by on Main Street, and I have nothing to lose if the local elders decide to try to disfellowship me.

Gee Bob, I fail to see how Sister Bargain Hunter is being persecuted by a simple reporting of the facts. She had the option of not stopping at a well marked fundraiser for an organization roundly condemned by the Borg. She also had the option of being friendly and acknowledging me as a friend, in which case I'd have had nothing to talk about.
Billy - I plan on counting the entire day, as well as 4 anti-studies and return visits. Where do I submit my slip?

Anyway, Sister Bargain Hunter asked the price and I advised her that it was $1, which she paid and off she went. After she left, I told the other ladies sitting with me that Sister Bargain Hunter had once been one of my closest friends, but since I stopped attending the meetings, she no longer would associate with me. They were all appropriately puzzled and asked if we had argued - I explained that the simple fact that I don't attend meetings has marked me as a dirty apostate and that's all that's needed to shun me. Lovely little reverse witness given that afternoon I think.

I am not vain, I spend very little time worrying about how I look or what I wear. As long as I am clean and covered, I'm good to go. I am uninterested in fashion or make up or hairstyling, but I will spend a small fortune on comfortable shoes.

I don't generally watch videos, as I have a strong preference for the written word and low tolerance for rambling, incoherent flapping which infests far too many youtube clips. Even professionally done news clips turn me off, because I can read the information faster than some talking head can read it to me. I certainly won't watch a long clip unless it promises to be hysterically funny.

Ostracism more damaging than bullying
by jgnat innew study out of the university of bc:.

we tend to underestimate the damage that social ostracism does.

Having been the recipient of all three - verbal and physical bullying and ostracism, I am not sure that I agree that ostracism is worst. I can't say that I enjoyed being ostracised, but simply being left out and ignored was less terrifying and hurtful than being threatened and harassed. The occasional mild physical or verbal harrassment would probably be less upsetting than constant ostracism, but it's all a matter of degree. And also, in my opinion, ostracism rarely occurs without at least an undercurrent of verbal harrassment - snickering when the target walks by, eye rolling, etc.
